OUTPATIENT!!!

Jason is officially an outpatient. They changed his dressings on his foot and arm today. I got to see what everything looked like. It was pretty painful for him when they were changing it all, but when they were done they said he could be discharged if he wanted to. Of course he jumped right on that and almost left the hospital without getting the IV taken out of his arm. He has a place to live close to the hospital b/c he has appointments there. It is so nice to spend some time with my husband before I have to leave. I wish I could stay with him. Hopefully they will let him come home very soon!

I will give you all an address for Jason as soon as I get it. He hasn't set up his mailbox yet, but will probably tomorrow!

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers during this time...please keep them coming as he has a long recovery ahead of him.

We love all of you,
Erika and Jason

MONDAY EVENING

Well not much has changed. He had his skin graph done and he has a heat lamp on his leg to dry up the spot they took the skin from. He still has some pain. We watched movies today and tried to take it easy. I have stayed with him the last two nights in the recliner but decided to get a good night sleep in my hotel room tonight. He has an appointment in the morning...early so I will go over when he is done with his appointment.

We hope to no more information by the time he becomes outpatient...which should be by Friday!!!

Haley called and told us she had fun at softball practice tonight. She said she hit the ball and caught the ball. She told us she was the only girl on the team.

My handsome Husband

Well I took two pics of Jason today. They show one injury but trust me you don't want to see his arm. He was hooked up to his sponge and we had to wheel it around with us. We did get to escape from the hospital for a little while today! So we relaxed without doctors, nurses, and a million people coming by to meet him. We watched movies and took it easy! He has his surgery - skin graphs on his arm tomorrow morning and they will check out his leg and toes again. His mom arrived today for the weekend. My room is very nice and the people here are very helpful and kind. It is right across the street and walking distance to the hospital. For now Jason is staying here in San Antonio till we find out more about what the doctor has to say. Hopefully we will know more before I depart!
Oh I almost forgot we were sitting outside this morning and Jason was going through his wallet. The wallet survived and was in his pocket on his left upper arm. He pulled a bunch of cards out of the wallet and they had a burn hole mark on the top of the cards. He looked more closely and a piece of shrapnel had burnt through his wallet and stopped inside the wallet and did not go all the way through. I can't even imagine what would have happened if it went all the way through his wallet. We are reminded everyday how lucky he was! AMAZING...someone up above was looking over him that day!

I AM FINALLY HERE!

I have finally made it to San Antonio to see my husband.
We were so happy to see each other.
We are so thankful to everyone!

He is in good spirits and will have surger on his arm on Saturday.
They did surgery on his toes yesterday!

He is in pain but he is going to be fine!
He will have rehab when he is done with his skin graphs!

ON MY WAY

I am leaving tomorrow morning for San Antonio, Texas. Jason had surgery today on his toes and they sponged his arm today. He is in a lot of pain but he is going to be okay. He is ready for me to get there ASAP. They will do his skin graphs on Saturday. I will be there for 11 days.

YEAH...I can't wait to see him.

I went to the Set A Good Example Dinner tonight where K. Dowling received an award and LCPL Josh Bleill was the guest speaker. They are both amazing people. Josh is who I thought of when I got my phone call on the 7th from the military about Jason. It brought back so many thoughts. Josh is an inspiration to us all! I have included a picture of Josh and I from the dinner. Josh was hit by an IED 10 days after being deployed and lost both of his legs. He had numerous other injuries as well. He is the most positive person and we are all amazed how he has overcome so many obstacles to be able to walk again.

UPDATE

On January 28, 2008 I married Jason Matthews in Killeen, Texas. In March he deployed to Iraq. Last week I received a phone call that Jason had been injured. It was the worst phone call I have ever received. My heart dropped to the floor. Jason was hit by and IED while driving a vehicle. He is working his way back to the states! He is going to be fine, has many injuries, and he is alive...that is the most important thing.

We are so lucky and so grateful that his buddy Denham who was with him reacted so quickly. He is our hero! He saved Jason's life and we are forever grateful to him. All of the Crazyhorse Soldiers are amazing and heroes. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

We did lose a great soldier and he will never be forgotten...Sgt Ricky Vaughn.
Please keep his wife and unborn baby in your thoughts as well.

On a Sunny Sunday

Good Times with some friends

I went and saw the movie Stop-Loss with my parents. I probably shouldn't have went and saw it b/c of Jason being in Iraq but I did. I love those kinds of movies and it hit home. It was a good movie. We then went to Cheeseburger and Paradise and had some appetizers.

Well Haley comes home tonight, but I will get her after work. I can't wait to see my baby girl! She is going to be starting soccer and softball in the next week.

Haven't talked to Jason since Wednesday morning. I did get a quick email from him. So that is relieving! It might be awhile before I get a phone call...I believe they are very busy! I am just thankful for the quick email!

Went out with some friends last night. We went to the Hacienda and to Lapel to Mardi Gras bar. It was pretty fun! It was good for me to get out and take my mind off of everything for a little while!

Probably going to finish cleaning house and workout (may run or go for bike ride b/c it is sunny and nice out today)!

Wake up call!

After four and half days I heard his voice. He called me while I was still in bed, but I had to get up and get ready for work. He sounded good and he said he was going to get internet very soon! YEAH! That will help. I have a 2 item to do list tonight for him and see if I can find what he wants here at home, but other than that nothing else is new. I had CPR training tonight and I am tired. May go to bed early!
